Stepping into the world of electrical facials is exciting but can also be overwhelming. With so many technologies to choose from, it’s difficult to know where to start. The good news? You don’t need every device to get started. This post explores which tech to choose, marketing tips, and unboxing your new device.
An Introduction to Facial Technologies
If you’re new to facial machines, there’s no need to rush in all at once. A great way to begin offering more advanced electrical treatments is to choose 1 or 2 complimentary technologies and build up your confidence.
Most essential technologies are covered in your Level 3 training but depending on when you did your training and who with, there could be a couple that are new to you. As entry-level machines don’t typically include training, it’s probably a good idea to stick to the machines you’ve had a little bit of experience with. Additionally, take into consideration what clients are interested in, how different devices could integrate into your current treatment menu, and what other local businesses offer.
Here’s an overview of the essential facial technologies available on entry-level machines:

Which Machine Should I Buy?
While there’s no “one size fits all” answer, there are some key considerations that will help you to select the best tech for your business.
Exfoliation and cleansing tech are ideal as a first step in many protocols and can be combined with other devices too. Microdermabrasion is often combined with an infusion technology like ultrasound or galvanic. The deep exfoliation removes dead skin cells and impurities, priming the skin to better absorb serums specific to your clients’ skin concerns.
Even though these technologies have different modes of action, their indications overlap. If you’re choosing a couple of machines for your salon, you might not want two lifting technologies like RF and microcurrent. A combination such as RF and galvanic covers a wider range of indications and can help to expand your treatment menu more efficiently.
Check in with your existing client base! They’re your core audience and their opinion is incredibly valuable. Find out what additional treatments they might be interested in and explore their preferences.
Most of these technologies have been around for a long time - and for good reason. Even though new devices are being launched all the time, they aren’t always better than the tried and tested salon staples. Despite over 40 years of new technologies and trends emerging, classic treatments like HF and RF are hard to beat and continue to provide great professional results.
If you’re already offering more traditional facials, you may not need to invest in a whole new range of products to go along with your new machines. Many professional skincare brands already carry products that are suitable for use with a variety of technologies. This Anesi Lab Oxygenating Gel is highly versatile and is an effective conductive medium for High Frequency, Iontophoresis (Galvanic), Radio Frequency, Microcurrent, and Ultrasound.
Getting Started
Now that you’re ready to begin offering more advanced facials, it’s time to order and unbox your new tech. We know that this can be daunting, which is why all of our SkinMate machines include a basic protocol in every manual as well as a free conductive gel or relevant product. These simple and easy to follow steps are a handy framework to help get your started. Plus, the SkinMate machines are straightforward “plug-and-play” devices that deliver effective results.
Marketing New Treatments
Once you’ve chosen your machines and practiced your new protocols, now it’s time to promote them. Clients are more informed now than ever before, but too much information and jargon can still be off-putting. Describing your treatments using names like “Advanced Anti-Ageing Facial” or “Lift & Glow Treatment” instead of something specific like “RF Facial” helps cater to all. This way the client is presented with the end goal which can be much more appealing, and further information about the technologies used can still be added into the treatment description.
