FAQs About Aqua Peeling

FAQs About Aqua Peeling

Aqua peeling has proven that it’s here to stay and only increasing in popularity. With so many different names, technologies, and price-points, can be difficult to know where to start, so we’ve answered the top 5 most commonly asked questions about this in-demand treatment.

What is Aqua Peeling?

Unlike traditional crystal or diamond microdermabrasion, aqua peeling (or hydrodermabrasion) uses a peel and suction for targeted exfoliation. The peel solution is usually delivered as a pressurised jet. This is more effective at pushing the peel solution further into the skin and offers an extra level of physical exfoliation too.

Many machines also incorporate a diamond head within the handpiece. In this case, all 3 modes of exfoliation (diamond head, peel solution, and jet action) are applied simultaneously for a more effective treatment.

How Does It Compare to Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is a classic beauty treatment with a wide variety of benefits, but hydrodermabrasion offers some key additional benefits:

  • More gentle exfoliation
  • Combines mechanical and chemical exfoliation
  • Typically kinder to the skin barrier
  • Usually combined with a serum infusion stage
  • Broad treatment indications
  • Results in a healthy, hydrated glow with minimal redness
  • Minimal downtime

Aqua Peeling or Hydrodermabrasion?

As with many treatments in the professional beauty industry, the name for this technology continues to evolve and there are plenty of different names currently in use. Much like Hoover or Velcro, HydraFacial is often used regardless of whether a branded HydraFacial machine is used. Other common terms include; Jet Peeling, Hydra Peeling, and Aqua Dermabrasion.

While brand names are protected and shouldn’t be used to describe other devices or treatments, the generic terms such as “aqua peeling” and “hydrodermabrasion” are not protected. This means that they don’t have an official definition and allows for any device and technology to use these terms, opening up the potential for misleading device marketing. At HOF Beauty, much like the majority of the beauty industry, we use these terms to refer to the jet peeling technologies as described above.

Why Are Some Machines Cheaper Than Others?

There are 2 main reasons for differences in pricing across different machines and brands.

  1. Unclear Marketing

As the generic terms for aqua peeling aren’t protected, there are many microdermabrasion devices that are marketed as one. These machines are typically much cheaper and don’t offer the same aqua peeling benefits.

To check whether a machine is actually using an aqua peeling technology, make sure the peeling solution attaches to the handpiece or machine. If it doesn’t, it is unlikely to offer a true aqua peeling treatment.

  1. Cheap Imitations

These machines are usually available direct from the manufacturer with no or limited customer support. Without a designated distributor or support team, spare parts can be difficult to source, manuals may be translated and difficult to decipher, and most importantly, hands-on machine training is typically unavailable.

What Results Can My Clients Expect?

These treatments have a wide variety of benefits and offer great overall skin rejuvenation results.

Immediately after a typical treatment, clients can see:

  • Improved texture
  • Visible glow
  • Increased hydration

With a regular treatment plan and quality aqua peeling products, clients can see:

  • Improved firmness
  • Reduced wrinkles
  • Healthy-looking skin
  • Even skin tone

Why is a Hydrodermabrasion Device Worth Investing In?

  1. Profitability

Hydro-facials are a highly in-demand treatment. Gentle yet effective, these treatments are also commonly framed as a luxury facial. Clients expect to pay more for aqua peeling than regular microdermabrasion and other common electrofacials, making for a profitable treatment and the potential to re-position your salon or clinic as more high-end.

  1. Multi-functional

High-quality aqua peeling machines, like the Infinity Aqua Fusion, often include additional technologies like RF and Electroporation. These can be incorporated into an aqua peeling treatment, offered as a chargeable add-on, and as an independent treatment.

  1. No Downtime

Part of what keeps clients coming back for more is the combination of results with no downtime. These non-invasive treatments are perfect for lunchtime facials, as a glow booster before an event, and for clients looking for low maintenance treatment options.
